WESSON – Top-ranked Jones County Junior College rallied from a 4-1 deficit and defeated Copiah-Lincoln 7-4 in game one of a doubleheader here Wednesday afternoon.
JCJC took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when
Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdale) led off with a home run.
Co-Lin scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning on a pair of two-run singles.
JCJC tied the game in the fourth inning when
Natalie Hogue (Harrison Central) and
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) singled. With two outs,
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) hit a three-run home run to rightfield to make it 4-4.
Jones took the lead for good in the fifth when
Autumn Frost (East Webster) doubled and Baty followed with an RBI double.
The Lady Bobcats added two runs in the sixth.
Brittany Hagwood (Enterprise) reached on error and
Cori McCrary (Carroll Academy) reached on a bunt single. After Loftin sacrificed,
Kelly Byrd's (Copiah Academy) ground out scored Hagwood. Frost's single then scored McCrary.
Amanda Holliday (Watson, Louisiana) posted the victory. She went the first four innings, allowed four runs (three earned), five hits, walked none and struck out four. Holliday is now 8-0 on the season.
Madison Burge (Harrison Central) pitched the final three innings and got her first save. She allowed no runs, three hits, walked none and struck out three.
Baty homered and doubled twice, while Frost doubled and singled twice. Loftin homered and had three RBIs and McCrary had two singles. Hogue, Murray and Hagwood added singles.
Kamryn VanLandingham, Mackenzie Byrd and Logan Deroche had two singles each for Co-Lin. Jamie Martin and Alexsundria Thomas both had singles.
Bailey Root went the distance and took the loss. She allowed seven runs (five earned), 12 hits, walked four and struck out three.
JCJC is now 25-0 on the year.
