MERIDIAN – Top-ranked Jones County Junior College remained unbeaten here Sunday afternoon against Meridian.
The Lady Bobcats rolled to a 13-1, five-inning victory in game two after winning the opener, 11-2 in six innings.
Jones is now 24-0 overall and 8-0 in the MACJC.
Jones set the tone quickly in game two.
Cori McCrary (Carroll Academy) led off with an infield single, Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) drew a walk and
Kelly Byrd (Copiah Academy) homered to center to make it 3-0.
The Lady Bobcats added a run in the second when
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) doubled and scored on
Brittany Hagwood's (Enterprise) single.
JCJC scored seven runs in the fourth to take an 11-0 lead.
Murray reached on an error and scored when Hagwood reached on an error. McCrary singled to put runners on first and second. After both runners advanced on a double steal, Hagwood scored on a wild pitch. Loftin's ground out scored McCrary to make it 7-0.
Byrd then walked and
Autumn Frost (East Webster) followed with a double.
Brittany Baty's (Northeast Lauderdale) sacrifice fly to center drove in Byrd and
Emily Robinson's (Lafayette) single scored courtesy runner Jessie Bumpous (Southaven).
Bailey Gilbert (Sylva-Bay Academy) reached on an error to put runners at first and third. Murray then delivered a two-run single.
In the fifth, Bumpous walked and Loftin reached on a fielder's choice. Frost followed with a two-run home run to left.
MCC scored its run in the bottom of the fifth.
Madison Burge (Harrison Central) posted the win. She pitched all five innings, allowed one run, five hits, one walk and struck out six. Burge is 5-0 on the year.
Frost homered, doubled, singled and drove in three runs, giving her seven RBIs on the day. Murray doubled and singled, while McCrary and Baty each had two singles. Byrd had a home run, while Robinson and Hagwood added singles.
Brianna Duquette singled twice for MCC.
Tiana Boutte pitched the first 4 2/3 innings for MCC and took the loss.
The Lady Bobcats head to Copiah-Lincoln for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday.
Meridian falls to 10-7 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The Lady Eagles visit Northeast on Wednesday.
