MERIDIAN – Top-ranked Jones County Junior College hit three home runs and posted an 11-2, six-inning win over Meridian in game one of a doubleheader here Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Bobcats are now 23-0 overall, 7-0 in the MACJC.
JCJC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when
Autumn Frost (East Webster) led off with a home run.
The Bobcats then went up 6-0 in the third when
Cori McCrary (Carroll Academy) and
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) led off with singles and
Kelly Byrd followed with an RBI single. Frost's sacrifice fly drove in a run and
Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdale) followed with a two-run home run.
Emily Robinson (Lafayette) followed that up with a solo shot.
After MCC got a run back in the bottom of the third, Jones answered with three runs in the fourth.
Brittany Hagwood (Enterprise) reached on an error and McCrary followed with a bunt single. Loftin followed with a two-run double to make it 8-1. A Frost ground out would score Loftin.
The Lady Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the fourth.
JCJC ended the scoring in the sixth.
Loftin led off with a bunt single and Byrd followed with a double. Frost's ground out scored Loftin and Baty's ground out scored Byrd.
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) pitched all six innings and improved her record to 7-0. She allowed two runs (one earned), five hits, walked one and struck out seven.
Loftin doubled and singled twice, while Byrd doubled and singled and McCrary singled twice. Baty and Robinson both homered with
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) getting a double. Frost had a single and four RBIs and Baty drove in three runs.
Kalley Delapez pitched the first 2 1/3 innings, allowed six runs, six hits, walked two, struck out two and took the loss.
Mackenzie Harvey had a double for MCC.
