ELLISVILLE –
Amanda Holliday (Watson, Louisiana) tossed a three-hit shutout to lead top-ranked Jones County to a 4-0 win over Northwest in game two of a doubleheader here Friday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
JCJC took the opener, 9-1 in five innings.
Holliday struck out five as she improved to 7-0.
JCJC scored three runs in the bottom of the first.
Cori McCrary (Carroll Academy) led off with a single and scored on
Kelsha Loftin's (Mendenhall) single. Kelly Byrd (Copiah Academy) reached on a throwing error, which allowed Loftin to score.
Emily Robinson's (Lafayette) single to left scored Byrd.
Loftin's opposite field home run in the fifth ended the scoring.
Loftin homered and tripled for JCJC. McCrary, Robinson and
Bailey Gilbert (Sylva-Bay Academy) added singles.
Smith went the distance for the Rangers and took the loss. She allowed four runs (two earned), five hits, walked none and struck out four.
Kailey Walker, Sallie Rose Carver and Smith had singles for Northwest.
JCJC is now 22-0 overall and 6-0 in the MACJC. Northwest falls to 10-8 overall and 4-2 in the league.
The Lady Bobcats travel to Meridian for a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday. Northwest goes to East Central on Sunday.
