No. 1 Lady Bobcats down Northwest, 9-1

ELLISVILLE – Haylee Morse (Madison Central) retired the final 11 batters she faced and helped No. 1 Jones County to a 9-1, five-inning win over Northwest in game one here Friday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
The Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Ally Judkins tripled and Tori Luke singled.
But the Lady Bobcats bounced back with six runs in the bottom of the first.
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) singled and scored on Kelly Byrd's (Copiah Academy) double. Autumn Frost (East Webster) then doubled Byrd home and Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdale) followed with a two-run home run.
Emily Robinson (Lafayette) then doubled and Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) walked. Both runners would score on throwing errors.
JCJC got three runs in the bottom of the fourth when Brittany Hagwood (Enterprise) reached on an infield single and stole second. Loftin's single scored Hagwood. Byrd then followed with a single and two errors on the same play allowed both Loftin and Byrd to score.
Morse (5-0) allowed one run, two hits, walked none and struck out five.
Loftin had three singles for JCJC, while Byrd and Frost each doubled and singled and Hagwood singled twice. Baty homered and Robinson doubled to round out the hitting for JCJC.
Tori Luke started and took the loss. She pitched an inning, allowed six runs (four earned), six hits and walked one. Harley Smith pitched the final three innings, allowed three runs (one earned), five hits and struck out two.
