                     ELLISVILLE – The third-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats made their 2017 home debut Friday evening at Community Bank Park.
JCJC whipped Southwest 12-2 in five innings in the Gwen Magee Invitational.
No. 10 Illinois Central beat Southwest 5-3 in an earlier game.
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) homered and drove in four runs and 
Madison Burge (Harrison Central) struck out nine as JCJC cruised past SMCC.
The Lady Bobcats jumped off to a quick start as 
Simone McKinney (Harrison Central) singled, 
Sarah Brock (North Pike) reached on a bunt single and 
Kelly Byrd (Copiah Academy) followed with an RBI single.
After 
Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdale) walked, 
Autumn Frost (East Webster) hit into a double play, which allowed Brock to score.
JCJC went up 6-0 in the second inning.
Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) led off with a single, Murray hit into a fielder's choice and 
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) reached on an error. McKinney's bunt single loaded the bases.
After Brock reached on a fielder's choice, Byrd was hit by a pitch to force a run home. Baty followed with a two-run single and Byrd came in on an error.
The Lady Bobcats went up 8-0 in the third.
Emily Robinson (Lafayette) was hit by a pitch and went to second on Venable's ground out. Murray followed with an RBI single and later scored when McKinney reached on an error.
Southwest scored its runs in the fourth inning when Jenna Duff singled and Madison Parker hit a two-run home run.
Bailey Gilbert (Sylva-Bay Academy) led off the bottom of the fourth with a single and Frost reached on a fielder's choice. Venable reached on an error and Murray followed with a three-run home run. Lofton followed with a double and scored on a double by 
Jessie Bumpous (Southaven).
Burge improved to 2-0. She went five innings, allowed two runs, three hits, walked none and struck out nine.
Murray homered and singled, while McKinney had two singles. Bumpous and Loftin had doubles with Brock, Byrd, Baty, Gilbert, Frost and Venable adding singles.
Starter Jenny Hudson pitched two innings and took the loss. She allowed six runs (two earned), seven hits and walked one. Jordan Harp pitched two innings, allowed six runs (one earned), five hits, walked one and struck out one.
Parker homered with Duff and Kayla Sanchez adding singles.
Southwest is 1-10 on the season.
