No. 3 Lady Bobcats slug four home runs in win over No. 10 Illinois Central

ELLISVILLE – No. 3 Jones County Junior College slugged four home runs and downed No. 10 Illinois Central 9-1 in 5 innings here Saturday afternoon in the Gwen Magee Invitational.
JCJC trailed 1-0 going into the bottom of the first inning, but they erased that deficit quickly.
Simone McKinney (Harrison Central) tripled to the fence in left-center and then scored on a passed ball.
With one out, Kelly Byrd (Copiah Academy) and Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdale) drew walks. Autumn Frost (East Webster) singled Byrd home.
Bailey Gilbert (Sylva-Bay Academy) then launched a 3-run home run over the leftfield fence to give JCJC a 5-1 lead.
The Lady Bobcats used the long ball to add two more runs in the third. Frost led off with a home run to dead center field and with two outs, Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) homered to right-center.
JCJC ended the scoring in the fourth when Byrd led off with her third home run of the year, an opposite field blast to right. Baty then draw a walk and was replaced by pinchrunner Brittany Hagwood (Enterprise). Hagwood stole second and scored on Taylor Murray's (Parklane Academy) single to left.
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) went the distance and got the win to go to 2-0 on the year. Perque allowed one run, three hits, walked one and struck out six.
Frost, Byrd and Loftin each homered and singled, while McKinney tripled and singled. Gilbert homered and drove in three runs, while Murray singled.
Paige Lane was the starter and loser for the Cougars. She pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed seven runs, seven hits, walked two and struck out two. Brittney Spiesz went 1 1/3 innings, allowed two runs, three hits, walked one and struck out one.
Abby Jacques singled twice for ICC, while Cassie Shaw singled for ICC's other hit.
Illinois Central is now 2-8 and will not play again until March 10 when they compete in the NFCA Classic in Columbus, Georgia.
