ELLISVILLE – It was another perfect weekend for the No. 3 Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats.
JCJC ended the Gwen Magee Invitational here Saturday evening at Community Bank Park with a 10-2, five-inning victory over Hinds.
The Lady Bobcats went 4-0 record in the event to go with last weekend's 5-0 mark in the Gulf Shores Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
The Lady Bobcats, 9-0, now will travel to Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana) for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Friday.
They return home on March 7 to open MACJC play against No. 12 East Central.
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) started the game vs. Hinds with a triple to rightfield and scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.
JCJC sent 10 players to the plate and scored five runs in the second inning.
Emily Robinson (Lafayette) walked, Brittany Hagwood (Enterprise) singled to left and Loftin was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Jessie Bumpous (Southaven) walked to force a run home and Kelly Byrd (Copiah Academy) followed with a bases-clearing double to make it 5-0. Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdal) singled Byrd home to make it 6-0.
The Lady Bobcats made it 7-0 in the third when Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) singled, was sacrificed to second by Hagwood, stole third and scored on a passed ball.
Hinds scored its runs in the fifth when Kilah Dearman led off with a double and Lexie Guion followed with a two-run home run over the left-center fence.
JCJC won the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Robinson led off with a single and Venable walked. Hagwood almost ended the game herself when she hit a deep drive to left that hit off the fence. It ended up being an RBI single, which scored Robinson.
Loftin then closed the game with a two-run single.
Haylee Morse (Madison Central) posted the win for JCJC. She retired the first nine batters she faced before giving up a single. She pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowed two runs, five hits, walked none and struck out six. Madison Burge (Harrison Central) got the final two outs.
Loftin tripled and singled, while Hagwood singled twice. Byrd doubled with Baty, Natalie Hogue (Harrison Central), Robinson and Venable adding singles.
Guion homered, Keely Ainsworth tripled, Dearman doubled and Brooke Patterson and Polly Kincaid added singles for Hinds
Cecilia Akin pitched the distance and took the loss. She pitched four-plus innings, allowed 10 runs (nine earned), nine hits, walked five and struck out five.
