GULF SHORES, Alabama – No. 3 Jones County Junior College broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the sixth inning and defeated Wallace State Community College-Hanceville (Alabama), 3-2, here Saturday afternoon in the Sun Chief Classic.
The win improved JCJC to 4-0 on the year.
With the game tied in the top of the sixth inning,
Bailey Gilbert (Sylva-Bay Academy) drew a one-out walk and was replaced by pinchrunner
Brittany Hagwood (Enterprise).
Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) then reached on an error.
After a strikeout,
Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdale) came through with a single to center to score Hagwood and give Jones the lead.

Amanda Holliday (Watson, Louisiana) then retired the side in order in the final two innings.
The Lions had taken a 1-0 lead in the first when Taylor Beashears singled and scored on a single by Charlee West.
Jones tied it at 1-1 in the second when
Autumn Frost (East Webster),
Natalie Hogue (Harrison Central) and Venable singled to load the bases. Frost would score on an error.
The Lady Bobcats took a 2-1 lead in the third when
Simone McKinney (Harrison Central) led off with a single. With two outs, Frost reached on an error and McKinney went to second. Hogue then singled to right to drive in McKinney.
Wallace State tied it in the bottom of the third when Beashears led off the inning with a home run.
Holliday, 2-0, went the distance and got the win. She allowed two runs, five hits, walked none and struck out five.
Cori McCrary (Carroll Academy) and Hogue had two singles each for Jones. McKinney, Frost, Venable, Baty and
Sarah Brock (North Pike) added singles.
Savannah Bolton went 5 2/3 innings and took the loss. She allowed three runs (none earned), eight hits, walked one and struck out two. Madison Grant gave up a hit and a walk in the final 1 1/3 innings.
Beashears homered and singled for the Lions, while West, Brittany Ledbetter and Abby Connally added singles.
Wallace State would go on later Saturday to defeat Pearl River 9-1 and LSU-Eunice 4-3 in the tournament.
Wallace State, 8-8, goes to Chattanooga State (Tennessee) on Tuesday.
