PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast defeated the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats 6-3 here Thursday afternoon at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.
It was the opening match of the season for both teams.
JCJC picked up a win in doubles and two wins in singles.
In No. 2 doubles, JCJC's
Kaylee McLaurin (Laurel Christian School) and
Mattie Mills (South Pontotoc) beat Katie Burrall and Jenna Lyons, 8-4.
In No. 3 singles, JCJC's
April Rudolph (Northeast Jones) beat Burrall, 2-6, 6-3 (5) and Mills beat Lyons in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
In No. 1 doubles, Paulina Estrada and Bianca Buie of MGCCC beat
Beth Owen (Stone) and
Anastasiia Bukhanova (Nakhodka, Russia), 8-4. In No. 3 doubles, Jasmine Sartin and Kaci Calhoun beat Rudolph and
August Parker (Northeast Jones), 8-5.
Estrada defeated Owen in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1 and Buie downed Bukhanova in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-3.
Sartin defeated McLaurin in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-2 and Jillian Craft beat Parker in No. 6 singles, 4-6, 6-4 (3).
JCJC returns to the court on Tuesday with a match at Holmes.
MGCCC hosts Faulkner State (Alabama) on Tuesday.
