ELLISVILLE – Ninth-ranked Jones County made 17 3-pointers en route to a 111-102 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
JCJC is now 13-1 overall and 4-1 in the division.
The Bobcats are tied for first place in the division with MGCCC and Southwest. Co-Lin upset Southwest 73-72 on Monday.
Jones placed three players in double figures with
David Davis (Purvis) leading the way with 36 points.
Tristin Walley (Hattiesburg) had 31 and
Maurice Dunlap (Amanda Elzy) had 19.
Davis was 8-of-10 from 3-point range and had a big 4-point play late in the first half. He was 11-of-16 overall from the field and 6-of-7 from the foul line. He had 23 points in the first half.
Walley was 11-of-12 from the field, including 1-of-1 from 3-point range, and was 8-of-10 from the free throw line. He had 21 points in the first half. Walley was also credited with 12 rebounds.
Dunlap was 5-of-7 from 3-point range and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. He scored all of his points in the second half.
The game was tied 44-44 late in the first half, but the Bobcats used a 13-4 surge to take a 57-48 lead at halftime.
The Bobcats went up 83-69 when
Bruce Stevens (Bay Springs) made two free throws. The Bulldogs got within 95-89 with around seven minutes remaining when Zach Parker made a 3-pointer.
But the Bobcats closed the game out well to notch the victory.
Davion Cole-Johnson led MGCCC with 28 points. Tedrian Brisco added 20, Winston Morgan finished with 18, Stacee St. Julian had 15 and Parker had 14.
The Bulldogs are now 12-2 overall and 4-1 in the division.
JCJC will visit East Central for a 7:30 p.m. game on Thursday.
MGCCC will host Pearl River.
