ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats opened MACJC South Division play in style.
The Lady Bobcats took a 6-0 lead in the first half and went on to defeat Southwest Mississippi 7-0 here Friday afternoon at Bobcat Soccer Field.
It did not take long for JCJC to take control.
Mary Kate Smith (South Jones) scored on a breakaway at 2:55 and again at 15:55 to give JCJC a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Bobcats took a 3-0 lead at 18:25 when Smith assisted
Shannon Durkin (Barnsley, England).
Jones added to the lead when
Marcie Napier (Laurel Christian School) passed to
Kelly Stubbington (London, England), who put the ball into the net with a header at 24:10.
The Lady Bobcats made it 5-0 at 33:50 when Smith scored again. Smith assisted Asheigh Lewis (London, England) at 36:30 to give the Lady Bobcats a 6-0 advantage.
JCJC's final goal came at 71:20 when Stubbington scored off a Smith assist.
Caroline Runion (Madison Central) was in goal for the first half and had a save.
Mia Holmes (Brandon) played in goal in the second half.
The Lady Bobcats are now 2-0 overall, 1-0 in division play.
Southwest falls to 1-3 and 0-1.
JCJC will continue league play at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Southwest hosts Meridian on Tuesday.
