ELLISVILLE – The Jones College women's soccer team opened conference play in commanding fashion Monday, rolling past East Mississippi 7-0 at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

The Bobcats scored three times in the opening 45 minutes and added four more after the break to improve to 5-0-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Jones controlled the match throughout, finishing with 36 shots, including 25 on goal, while limiting East Mississippi to one attempt.

FIRST HALF

Jones needed less than two minutes to find the opener.

Karla Ovalle (Panama City, Panama; Bolivar Commercial Institute) forced the Lions (2-4-1, 0-1) keeper into an early save before setting up Graison Holder (Laurel; Northeast Jones) at the 1:53 mark. Holder converted the opportunity by lacing the ball past the EMCC keeper for her first goal of the season to put the Bobcats ahead 1-0.

The Bobcats continued to pressure the East Mississippi goal and earned a penalty kick in the 19th minute. Ovalle stepped up to take it, but the EMCC keeper was equal to the shot and turned it away.

In the 23rd minute however, Ovalle got her revenge by beating the keeper one-on-one for her fifth goal of the season, doubling the Jones advantage to 2-0.

Astrid Ortiz (Hattiesburg; Oak Grove) added the third in the 35th minute, scoring her second goal of the season after reading a pass perfectly and jumping onto the ball, then rifling it past the keeper to send Jones into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

The Bobcats outshot East Mississippi 13-0 during the opening 45 minutes and earned all three of the first-half corner kicks.

SECOND HALF

The Bobcat attack picked up where it left off after halftime.

Jameyah Hubbard (Tupelo) made it 4-0 in the 52nd minute, finishing off a perfect feed from Brianna Kimbrell (Olive Branch; Lewisburg) for her third goal of the season.

Less than 10 minutes later, Maryanne Ward (Gweedore, Co. Donegal, Ireland; Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair) found Jorgelis Serna (San Miguelito, Panama; Santa Fe Futbol Club) unmarked at the back post, who promptly scored the first goal of her career and season at the 61:23 mark to extend the advantage to 5-0.

Serna struck again in the closing minutes after a Dillyn Biancamano (Long Beach) attempt was saved in the 89th minute and Serna subsequently turned in the rebound for her second goal of the match.

Biancamano would get her revenge and beat the keeper less than a minute later to add the seventh and final goal of the match, by finishing off Kimbrell's second assist of the night to complete the 7-0 victory.

Jones produced 23 shots in the second half and finished the night with a 36-1 advantage in attempts and an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.

Serna led the Bobcats with two goals off the bench, while Holder, Ovalle, Ortiz, Hubbard and Biancamano each scored once. Kimbrell recorded two assists, with Ovalle, Biancamano and Ward adding one apiece.

Jennifer Huerzeler (Rapperswil-Jona, Switzerland; BWZ Rapperswil) worked the opening 45 minutes in goal before Darby Ford (Sumrall) took over after halftime as the Jones defense completed the shutout.
