SENATOBIA – No. 2 Jones College went on the road and took down the nation's top-ranked team Tuesday night.
Dillyn Biancamano scored the go-ahead goal and later assisted on an insurance tally as the second-ranked Bobcats defeated two-time defending national champion No. 1 Northwest Mississippi, 3-1, at the Ranger Soccer Complex.
Jones (7-0-1, 3-0 MACCC) scored twice in the second half to break a 1-1 halftime tie and hand Northwest (7-1, 2-1) its first loss of the season.
The defeat was also Northwest's first at home since Oct. 20, 2023, which was a 3-0 loss to Jones.
Brianna Kimbrell put Jones in front in the 21st minute. Karla Ovalle sent a cross into the box that took a deflection before Kimbrell finished from six yards out for a 1-0 advantage.
Northwest answered less than four minutes later.
Rylee Ringold delivered a cross to Yazzlyn Alex, who finished in the 25th minute to pull the Rangers even at 1-1.
The score remained tied through halftime until Jones regained the lead in the 59th minute.
Jameyah Hubbard delivered a cross to Biancamano, who converted for her first goal of the night and a 2-1 Bobcat advantage.
The Bobcats added some breathing room with 10:49 remaining when Maryanne Ward finished from Biancamano and made it a 3-1 Jones lead.
Northwest attempted 10 shots in the match but managed just one on goal — Alex's first-half score. The Rangers had five shots in each half and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks, but the Bobcats did not allow another shot on frame after the 25th minute.
The Bobcats were efficient offensively, putting six of their seven shots on target. Northwest goalkeeper Lydia Knabb finished with three saves.
Jones returns home on Friday to host Southwest for a 5:45 kick.
