RAYMOND – The 20th-ranked Jones County Junior College women's tennis team improved to 13-0 with a 7-2 win over Hinds here Thursday afternoon.
The Hinds' women are 12-4 and the HCC men's team falls to 4-10.
JCJC won two of the doubles' points.
Claire Rounsaville and
Breanna Waller defeated Brittany Weathersby and Mary Neely Meyers in No. 2 doubles, 8-5.
April Rudolph and
Mattie Mills downed Sophia Slusasz and Chen Elizar in No. 3 doubles, 9-7. Rachel Rodriguez and
Madison Currie lost in No. 1 doubles to Mariana Alvarez and Rachel Rhett, 8-3.
Currie beat Weathersby in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1, and Rounsaville beat Rhett in No. 3 singles, 7-6 (5), 6-1. Rudolph defeated Meyers in No. 4 singles, 7-5, 6-2, and Mills rallied by Slusasz in No. 5 singles, 1-6, 6-2, 10-8. Waller downed Elizar in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
Alvarez beat Rodriguez in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3.
In an extra match,
C.J. King of JCJC defeated Aygul Brown, 8-2.
The Hinds' women are now 12-4.
The Bobcats return home to face Itawamba in a 2 p.m. match on April 12 and will play its final home regular season match at 2 p.m. on April 14 vs. Copiah-Lincoln. Jones ends the regular season at Meridian on April 16.
Hinds plays Snead State Community College (Alabama) on April 9 in Meridian and goes to Copiah-Lincoln on April 11.
