Frost, Byrd, Holliday help No. 6 JCJC blank Holmes

ELLISVILLE – Autumn Frost and Kelly Byrd both homered and Amanda Holliday tossed four shutout innings as the No. 6 Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats blanked Holmes, 8-0 in five innings in game two here Tuesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
JCJC won the opener, 11-3 in six innings.
JCJC is now 29-6 overall and leads the MACJC with an 18-2 mark. Holmes falls to 13-19-1 and 8-14.
JCJC got off to a quick start.
In the bottom of the first inning, Kalyn Watts reached on a bunt single and was sacrificed to second by Cori McCrary. Byrd then hit her second home run of the doubleheader to give JCJC a 2-0 lead. That gave Byrd six RBIs on the day.
The Lady Bobcats made it 5-0 in the third when Brittany Baty drew a one-out walk, Natalie Hogue singled and Frost hit a three-run home run over the leftfield fence.
JCJC added two runs in the fourth.
Jay Harris drew a walk and went to second on a groundout by Watts. McCrary's single scored Harris and Baty's single would score McCrary.
The Lady Bobcats ended it in the fifth when Rachel Hayes had a pinch-hit, two-out double and was replaced by Shelby Nelson. Harris then singled to drive in Nelson with the clinching run.
Holiday, 10-4, posted the win. She went four innings, allowed no runs, five hits, walked none and struck out three. Haylee Morse pitched the fifth inning, allowed no hits and struck out two.
Frost homered, singled and drove in three runs, while Watts and Hogue each had two singles. Byrd homered and drove in two runs, while Hayes doubled. McCrary, Baty, Tylesha Davis and Harris added singles.
Torey Daniels doubled and singled for Holmes, while Anna Garza, Abby Stafford and Darrien Dykes had singles.
Blair Little started, went 3 1/3 innings and took the loss. She gave up seven earned runs, nine hits, walked two and struck out one. Reagan Aldridge pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, allowed one earned run and three hits.
The Lady Bobcats host No. 9 Itawamba in a crucial 4 p.m. doubleheader on April 8. ICC will bring a 33-6 overall and 18-4 league record into the twinbill. Both games will air on www.jcjc.tv. JCJC travels to Northwest for a 2 p.m. doubleheader on March 10.
Holmes goes to Hinds on April 8.
