FULTON – The 20
th-ranked Jones County Junior College women's tennis team remained unbeaten with a dramatic rally here Saturday vs. Itawamba.
Trailing 4-3, JCJC got victories from
Mattie Mills in No. 5 singles and
Breanna Waller in No. 6 singles – both in 10-point tiebreakers – to beat Itawamba, 5-4.
The victory keeps JCJC unbeaten at 11-0, while the Lady Indians fall to 7-2.
Mills had quite a battle with Ivy Robbins, but she prevailed, 5-7, 7-6 (3), 10-3. Waller had to rally to defeat Meredith Lee, 0-6, 6-4, 11-9.
JCJC's Rachel Rodriguez beat Jordan Roberts in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4, and JCJC's
Claire Rounsaville defeated Kacey Byrd in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
The Lady Bobcats picked up a win in No. 1 doubles when Rodriguez and
Madison Currie beat Roberts and Robbins, 8-3.
In No. 2 doubles, ICC's Byrd and Madison Scott defeated Rounsaville and Waller, 8-2, and in No. 3 doubles, ICC's Lee and Andria Barnes downed Mills and
April Rudolph, 8-5.
In No. 2 singles, Barnes downed Currie, 6-4, 6-1, and in No. 4 singles, Scott outlasted Rudolph, 7-6 (6), 1-6, 11-9.
The Bobcats host Mississippi Gulf Coast at 2 p.m. on April 5 and travel to Hinds on April 7.
Itawamba goes to East Central on April 4 and to Northeast on April 6.
