MERIDIAN – No. 16 Meridian edged No. 20 Jones County 5-4 here Saturday at the Northeast Tennis Center.
It was the first loss of the season for the Lady Bobcats, who are now 14-1. Meridian improves to 21-2.
Both teams will compete in the MACJC/Region 23 Tournament April 20-23 at Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Meridian took two of the doubles' points.
JCJC's Rachel Rodriguez and
Madison Currie defeated Paige Gibson and Shelby Zackery in No. 1 doubles, 8-2. MCC's Jordyn Hull and Alden Hartley beat
Claire Rounsaville and
Breanna Waller in No. 2 doubles, 8-5. MCC's Jami Daugherty and Taylor Miller defeated
April Rudolph and
Mattie Mills in No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
The teams split the singles' matches, with JCJC winning in No.'s 1-3 singles and MCC taking No.'s 4-6 singles.
Rodriguez beat Gibson in No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-5. Currie outlasted Zachry in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 5-7, 10-2. Rounsaville downed Kyra Holway in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
MCC's Hayden Hill beat Rudolph in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Hull downed Mills in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-3. Miller defeated Waller in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
JCJC's
C.J. King beat Brittany Allen in an extra match, 8-2.
