No. 6 Lady Bobcats clinch top spot in MACJC

ELLISVILLE – The 6th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats clinched the top seed in the MACJC Tournament with a 13-1, five-inning victory over Coahoma in game one here Saturday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
JCJC is now 36-6 overall and 25-2 in the conference.
Rachel Hayes, 19-1, went 4 1/3 innings and struck out 10 to get the victory. She allowed one hit and walked two.
Hayes tossed a no-hitter in her previous outing vs. Hinds and held Coahoma hitless until a leadoff single in the fifth inning. Hayes is tied for second nationally in victories and is fifth in strikeouts with 165.
Haylee Morse pitched the final 2/3 of an inning and gave up two hits.
The Lady Bobcats scored twice in the first inning when Kalyn Watts led off with a double and Jay Harris walked. The runners each stole a base and Natalie Hogue's sacrifice fly to right scored Watts. Hayes singled to score Harris.
Jones took an 8-0 lead in the second inning.
Juliana Rouse and Watts walked and each runner advanced on a wild pitch. A Harris sacrifice fly to right scored Rouse. Brittany Baty then followed with a two-run home run – her 16th of the season, which places her sixth in the nation.
Hogue singled, Hayes was hit by a pitch and Ashley Valentine then blasted a three-run home run.
JCJC went up 12-0 in the third.
Rouse singled, Skyler McLain doubled and Watts walked to load the bases. Harris walked to score Rouse, Baty was hit by a pitch to score McLain and Hogue walked to score Watts. Harris would score when Hayes reached on an error.
In the fourth, Rouse led off with a single and McLain followed with a single. Jessie Bumpous hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Rouse.
Coahoma got its run in the fifth when Jessica Haynes, Markelia Cross and Aliesha Sampson singled to load the bases. Lottie Dawson's fielder's choice scored Haynes.
McLain doubled and singled and Rouse singled twice for the Lady Bobcats. Baty and Valentine homered, while Watts had a double. Hogue and Hayes added singles.
Haynes, Cross and Sampson each singled for Coahoma.
Shunekqua Mungon was the starter and loser. She went two-plus innings, allowed 12 runs (11 earned), seven hits, walked seven and hit one. Lottie Dawson pitched two innings, allowed one run, two hits and struck out one.
