RAYMOND –
Amanda Holliday was sharp in game two as No. 6 Jones County completed a sweep of Hinds here Wednesday afternoon at Rene Warren Field.
Holliday retired the first 12 batters she faced and the Lady Bobcats went on to beat the Lady Eagles, 8-1.
JCJC took the opener 6-0 as a
Rachel Hayes tossed a no-hitter.
JCJC is now 35-6 overall and 24-2 in the MACJC. The Lady Bobcats can clinch first place in the conference with a sweep over Coahoma on April 16. The doubleheader starts at 2 p.m. and both games will air on
www.jcjc.tv.
It will also be "Sophomore Day" as it will be the final home regular season doubleheader for the Lady Bobcats.
JCJC has added another doubleheader to the schedule. The Lady Bobcats will end regular season play with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on April 19 vs. Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana). The games will be played at Central Private Academy in Baton Rouge.
Hinds, 11-28-1 overall and 8-18 in the MACJC, ends its season at Mississippi Delta on April 16.
Hollday, 12-4, allowed a leadoff single in the fifth. She went the full seven innings and posted the win. She allowed one earned run, three hits, walked none and struck out three.
Jones took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Cori McCrary singled and scored on
Kelly Byrd's double.
JCJC added two runs in the third.
Kalyn Watts singled, stole second, was sacrificed to third by McCrary and scored on Byrd's groundout.
Brittany Baty followed with a triple and scored on
Natalie Hogue's single.
The Lady Bobcats made it 4-0 in the fourth when
Jay Harris and
Brittany Hagwood reached on errors and Watts followed with an RBI single.
JCJC took a 5-0 lead in the fifth when Baty and Hogue singled and Frost drove in Baty with a sacrifice fly.
Hinds scored its run in the bottom of the fifth.
The Lady Bobcats ended the scoring in the seventh when Hogue and Frost singled and
Ashley Valentine drilled a three-run home run.
Hogue had three singles, while Baty tripled and singled and Watts and McCrary each singled twice. Valentine homered and drove in three runs, while Byrd doubled and had two RBIs. Frost added a single.
Kaitlynn Dardar, Madison Leggett and Alexis Kinard each singled for Hinds.
Faith Thomas went the distance and took the loss. She allowed eight runs (seven earned), 12 hits, walked three and struck out two.
