ELLISVILLE – Defense let fourth-ranked Jones County Junior College down in Wednesday's opener agianst Lansing Community College (Michigan).
The Lady Bobcats committed five errors, which led to six unearned runs, as they dropped a 9-4 decision to the Stars.
The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak for the Lady Bobcats.
Amanda Holliday, 6-2, pitched all seven innings and took the tough-luck loss. She gave up nine runs – only three earned – seven hits, walked one and struck out five.
The Stars scored three runs in the top of the first.
JCJC got on the board in the third.
Holliday singled, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by
Tylesha Davis.
Lansing took a 6-1 lead in the fourth before JCJC came back in the fifth.
Autumn Frost led off the inning with her fourth home run of the season. Holliday singled and Davis reached on an error. After a sacrifice,
Kalyn Watts reached on a fielder's choice.
Cori McCrary reached on an error, which allowed Holliday to score and
Kelly Byrd's sacrifice fly scored Davis.
The Stars scored three runs in the sixth inning.
Holliday had three singles, while Frost homered. Watts, Byrd and Davis had singles.
Alexandra Grys went the distance and got win. She gave up four runs (two earned), seven hits, walked four and struck out five.
Madison Adams homered and singled for the Stars, while Amber Morton homered. Grys, Renee Morton, Nichole Numerich and Jordan Schneider added singles.
