ELLISVILLE – Seventh-ranked Jones County Junior College sent 16 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs in the second inning en route to a 21-3, five-inning win oer East Mississippi here Friday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
Brittany Baty hit two home runs and had six RBIs – all in the second inning – as JCJC cruised to the victory.
The Lady Bobcats sent 10 batters to the plate and score six runs in the first inning.
Cori McCrary reached on an error,
Kelly Byrd singled and Baty walked to load the bases.
Ashley Valentine walked to drive in a run,
Natalie Hogue followed with a two-run single and
Autumn Frost hit a two-run double.
Rachel Hayes then doubled and
Brittany Hagwood's groundout made it 6-0.
EMCC's Danielle Darmohray hit a two-out home run in the top of the second to make it 6-1.
In the second inning, 13 consecutive Lady Bobcats reached base.
With one out, Byrd walked and Baty followed with a two-run home run. Valentine and Hogue walked and Frost followed with a three-run homer to make it 11-1. Hayes then hit a solo home run to give Jones a 12-1 lead.
Hagwood, Watts and McCray followed with singles to load the bases and Byrd walked to force in a run. Baty then delivered her second home run of the inning – a grand slam to center, giving JCJC a 17-1 lead.
EMCC got a pair of runs in the third.
Amandalynn Abney walked and Blake Rigdon followed with a double. Mallory Vance's ground out scored a run and Sydney Olander's infield hit drove in another.
The Lady Bobcats got two runs in the bottom of the third when Watts reached on an infield hit and
Juliana Rouse walked. Byrd then drilled a two-run double to make it 19-3.
JCJC closed the scoring in the fourth when
Jessie Bumpous reached on a two-out error and Watts followed with her sixth home run of the season.
Hayes, 8-1, was credited with the win. She went two-plus innings, allowed three runs, two hits, walked one and struck out five.
Jasmine Hill went two innings, allowed two hits and struck out two.
Lauren Welch pitched the final inning and gave up one hit.
Baty had the two homers and six RBIs, while Frost had a home run, double and five RBIs. Byrd doubled twice, singled and drove in three runs. Watts homered, singled twice and drove in two runs. Hayes homered and doubled, while Hogue had two singles. McCrary and Hagwood added singles. Watts, Byrd and Baty each scored three runs.
Darmohray homered, Olander singled twice, Rigdon doubled and Emily Patrick singled for EMCC.
Valiree Blair was the starter and loser. She pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowed nine runs (seven earned), six hits and walked three. Chandler Ellis pitched to eight batters and did not retire any. She gave up eight earned runs, six hits and walked two. Zoie LaVergne pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowed four runs (two earned), four hits, walked four and struck out one.
JCJC is now 13-0 overall and 3-0 in the MACJC.
EMCC is 7-8 overall and 2-1 in the league.
