ELLISVILLE –
Amanda Holliday retired the first 12 batters she faced to help 7th-ranked Jones County blank East Mississippi 8-0 in five innings in game two of a doubleheader here Friday evening at Community Bank Park.
JCJC has now won nine games in a row and has outscored its opponents 81-8 during that stretch.
Holliday retired the first 12 batters before giving a leadoff single to Marissa Landrum in the fifth inning. It would be EMCC's only baserunner of the game.
Holliday, 5-1, pitched all five innings and finished with four strikeouts.
JCJC took command with a seven-run second inning.
Natalie Hogue started it off with a solo home run. Holliday singled and advanced to second base on an error. After
Tylesha Davis sacrificed,
Jay Harris drew a walk. A wild pitch scored Holliday and
Kalyn Watts then singled.
Cori McCrary walked to load the bases.
Kelly Byrd lined out to short, but the ball was thrown away at first base when EMCC tried to double McCrary off first base. That allowed Harris to score and make it 3-0.
After Baty walked, Frost stepped up and launched a grand slam home run over the centerfield wall to make it 7-0.
It stayed that way until the fourth when Baty hit her third home of the day – a solo drive to right-center.
Frost homered, singled and drove in four runs, while Watts singled twice. Hogue and Baty each homered, Harris doubled and Holliday singled to round out the hitting attack.
In both games on Friday, Frost had two home runs and nine RBIs, while Baty had three home runs and drove in seven runs.
Ciara Steward was the starter and loser for EMCC. She went 1 2/3 innings, allowed seven runs (all earned), five hits and walked three. Jordan Self pitched 2 1/3 innings, gave up one earned run, three hits and struck out two.
The Lady Bobcats, 14-3 overall and 4-0 in the MACJC, will head to Southwest for a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday.
EMCC, 7-9 overall and 2-2 in the conference, will host Holmes on Tuesday.
