DECATUR –
Kalyn Watts and
Amanda Holliday took center stage for 7th-ranked Jones County here Wednesday afternoon in game two against 2nd-ranked East Central.
After hitting a home run in game one, Watts homered twice in game and Holliday threw a two-hitter as the Lady Bobcats completed the sweep with a 5-1 victory over the Lady Warriors.
Holliday, 4-1, did not allow an earned run, walked one and struck out four.
Watts got Jones off to a great start, leading off the game with a home run in the top of the first inning.
Cori McCrary then singled and scored on
Ashley Valentine's double.
Natalie Hogue then drove in Valentine with a double to make it 3-0.
ECCC got its run in the bottom of the first when Caitlyn Aldous singled, went to second on a passed ball and went to third on a ground out. Maegen Ellis then reached on an error, which allowed Aldous to score.
Watts was back at it again in the second inning when she hit a two-out solo home run to give Jones a 4-1 lead. It was her sixth home run of the year.
JCJC got its final run in the seventh when Watts doubled and scored on Byrd's single.
Watts homered twice, doubled and scored three runs. Hogue doubled and singled, while McCrary and Byrd each singled twice. Valentine had a double with
Tylesha Davis adding a single.
Aldous had both of East Central's hits with singles.
Chloe Thaggard pitched the whole game and was charged with the loss. She allowed five runs, 11 hits, walked none and struck out one.
The Lady Bobcats, 12-3 overall and 2-0 in the MACJC, have now won seven straight games. JCJC continues league play with a 3 p.m. Friday doubleheader at home at Community Bank Park against East Mississippi.
East Central, 16-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play, travels to Coahoma for a doubleheader on Friday.
