ELLISVILLE – Rachel Hayes gave up three hits as No. 5 Jones County Junior College beat Copiah-Lincoln 6-1 here Wednesday afternoon in game one at Community Bank Park.
Hayes struck out two and walked one as she improved to 11-1. She now has 95 strikeouts on the season, which puts her second in NJCAA Division II.
Jones took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when
Kalyn Watts led off with a bunt single and
Cori McCrary reached on an error when she bunted. Watts went to third on
Kelly Byrd's fly ball to right and scored on a wild pitch.
The Lady Bobcats made it 4-0 in the third.
Jay Harris led off with a double into the leftfield corner and scored on an infield hit by Watts. After McCrary sacrificed, Byrd singled Watts home. Byrd went to third on an error and scored on
Brittany Baty's sacrifice bunt.
Co-Lin scored in the sixth when Lauren Brashier hit a two-out home run to center.
In the bottom of the sixth, Hayes singled and was replaced by courtesy runner
Brittany Hagwood.
Autumn Frost tripled Hagwood home and pinch-runner
Skyler McLain scored on Harris' sacrifice bunt.
Hayes and Watts each singled twice for JCJC, while Frost tripled, Harris doubled and Byrd and McCrary added singles.
Kaitlyn Taylor, 6-1, went the distance and took the loss for the Lady Wolves. She allowed six runs (three earned), seven hits, walked none and struck out four.
Brashier homered, while Jessica Crum and Taylor added singles for Co-Lin.
