ELLISVILLE – Cassie Shaw hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning to spark No. 8 Illinois Central to an 8-3 victory over No. 7 Jones County here Saturday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
Amanda Foes hit a solo home run in the third inning to put ICC ahead, 4-0.
The Lady Bobcats got on the board in the bottom of the third when
Kalyn Watts led off with a single, was sacrificed to second by
Cori McCrary and scored on
Kelly Byrd's single.
The Cougars increased the lead to 8-1 in the top of the seventh.
Foes singled and scored on a triple by Joy Treasure. Courtney Pearson reached on an error, which allowed Treasure to score. Megan Connor then singled and Casey Brunton followed with a two-run single.
JCJC scored twice in its final at-bat.
Tylesha Davis singled and Watts drew a walk.
Jessie Bumpous would then deliver a two-run double.
Bumpous and Baty doubled for JCJC, while Watts,
Natalie Hogue,
Autumn Frost and Byrd singled.
Haylee Morse started and took the loss. She went 3 1/3 innings, allowed four runs (one earned), four hits, walked none and struck out one.
Amanda Holliday went the final 3 2/3 innings, allowed four runs (one earned), six hits, walked one and struck out one.
Foes and Shaw each homered and singled for Illinois Central. Ali Haesele and Connor each singled twice, Treasure tripled and Brunton singled.
Shaw went the distance and got the win.
She allowed three runs (one earned), six hits, walked one and struck out two.
