Box Score ELLISVILLE – Jones County got some timely hits and took advantage of six Mineral Area College (Missouri) errors and defeated the Cardinals 8-4 here Saturday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
The Bobcats, 8-0, have now outscored their opponents 100-21 this season.
JCJC will travel to Brewton, Alabama, to take on Jefferson Davis Community College in a noon doubleheader on Thursday.
Mineral Area, 2-6, will go to Pensacola, Florida, and play four games in a tournament on Friday-Saturday.
Logan Robbins, 2-0, went the first four innings and posted the win.
He gave up no runs, two hits, walked one and struck out five.
Tyler Spring then pitched two innings, allowed no runs, one hit and struck out one.
Anthony Williams pitched the final inning and allowed four runs on four hits.
The Bobcats got on the board in the bottom of the first inning.
Clint Sasser led off with an infield hit and stole second.
Shelton Wallace then doubled Sasser home. Wallace took third when the rightfielder misplayed the ball and scored on Irby's sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
JCJC took a 3-0 lead in the third when Sasser singled, stole second and scored on
Mason Irby's double.
The Bobcats scored five runs on just one hit in the sixth inning, as they took advantage of four Mineral Area errors.
Chris Richardson reached on an error to start the inning and
Dalton Skelton was hit by a pitch.
Landon Nettles then reached on a fielder's choice when the catcher made a low throw trying to get Richardson at third base.
Fred Franklin's sacrifice fly scored Richardson and Sasser's sacrifice fly scored Skelton to make it 5-0.
Wallace then walked and Irby followed with an RBI single to right. The ball rolled under the rightfielder's glove and went all the way to the wall. Wallace scored on the error and Irby was able to circle the bases when another error was made on the throw back to home plate.
The Cardinals would get singles from Brad Freed, Grant Dix and Trever Lewis to load the bases with no outs in the seventh. Logan Bax's ground ball out scored Freed and Tim Fox followed with a two-run triple. Bryer Nash's groundout scored Fox with the final run.
Wallace doubled twice and Irby doubled and singled for the Bobcats. Sasser and Richardson had two singles each and Hoard and Franklin added singles.
Fox tripled and singled and Dix singled twice for the Cardinals. Bouse, Freed and Lewis added singles.
Alex Hanft started, went the first five innings and took the loss. He gave up three runs (two earned), nine hits, walked one and struck out two. Brett Mann pitched the sixth inning, allowed five runs (none earned), one hit, walked one and struck out one.
