Eight-ranked Illinois Central broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the sixth inning and went on to No. 7 Jones County here Friday at Community Bank Park in the opening game of the Gwen Magee Invitational.
Kelly Byrd put the Lady Bobcats up 1-0 in the first inning with a home run to right-center.
Illinois Central tied it in the fourth when Casey Brunton walked and Amanda Foes bunted. The ball was thrown away into the rightfield corner for a three-base error, allowing Brunton to score all the way from first base.
In the top of the sixth, Foes got a one-out single and Joy Treasure followed with a double to right. Jena Reddig's sacrifice scored Foes. With two outs, Megan Connor doubled into left-center to drive in Treasure and Reddig.
Rachel Hayes, 3-1, went the distance and took the loss for Jones. She allowed four runs (three earned), four hits, walked one and struck out seven.
Kalyn Watts had three singles, Byrd homered and Hayes singled for JCJC.
Reddig went the distance and got the win for the Cougars. She gave up one run, five hits, walked four and struck out none.
Treasure and Pearson each doubled, while Foes and Brooke Bolliger added singles for ICC.
