ELLISVILLE –
Rachel Hayes continues to impress early in the 2016 season.
Hayes tossed a six-inning, no-hitter to lead No. 7 Jones County Junior College to an 8-0 victory over Jefferson Davis Community College (Alabama) in game one of a doubleheader here Tuesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
Hayes recorded eight strikeouts, walked three and improved to 3-0.
JCJC took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when
Jessie Bumpous and
Kelly Byrd walked.
Autumn Frost followed with an RBI single and
Brittany Baty's fielder's choice drove in a run.
In the second,
Jay Harris walked and
Cori McCrary reached on a bunt single. Harris took third on the play.
Kalyn Watts then sacrificed, which scored Harris. Bumpous followed with an RBI single to left to make it 4-0.
The Lady Bobcats added a run in the third. Hayes drew a one-out walk and Harris reached on a bunt single. McCrary followed with an RBI single to make it 5-0.
In the fifth, McCrary singled and Bumpous doubled to deep right to drive in McCrary.
Kelly Byrd reached on an error, which allowed Bumpous to score.
Brittany Baty led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run to center field to end the game.
McCrary had three singles, Bumpous doubled and singled and Baty homered. Byrd, Frost,
Natalie Hogue and Harris added singles. Baty and Bumpous each drove in two runs.
Kayla Lovett went the distance for the Warhawks. She allowed eight runs (seven earned), 10 hits, walked five and struck out two.
