Rachel Hayes struck out 10 to help the 7
th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats defeat Cowley College (Kansas) 7-4 here Saturday afternoon at Lady Bengal Field.
Hayes went the distance and scattered eight hits as she improved to 2-0.
JCJC took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when
Autumn Frost walked and
Natalie Hogue sacrificed.
Brittany Baty followed with an RBI double to left.
Jay Harris then singled Baty home.
The Lady Bobcats scored three runs in the third.
Jessie Bumpous was hit by a pitch and
Kelly Byrd reached on an error. Frost then doubled Bumpous home and Baty drew a walk to load the bases. Byrd scored on a wild pitch and Frost advanced home on an error.
JCJC took a 6-0 lead in the fourth when
Brittany Hagwood singled and was sacrificed to second by
Cori McCrary. Hagwood took third on a Bumpous groundout and scored on Byrd's single.
The Lady Bobcats went up 7-0 in the top of the sixth when McCrary and Bumpous led off with singles.

The Tigers got a run in the bottom of the sixth on a home run by Alex Holzman and scored three runs in the seventh before Hayes shut the door.
Baty doubled and singled, while Frost and Hayes each doubled. McCrary, Bumpous, Byrd, Hogue, Harris and Hagwood added singles.
Jolona Shield went the distance and took the loss. She allowed 10 hits, five earned runs, walked three and struck out three.
Shield doubled and singled twice for the Tigers, while Holzman homered and singled. Tori Hoskin, Kylie Fox and Maddie Anderson added singles.
Cowley, 1-10, hosts Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa on Wednesday.
