ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College men's basketball team outscored Copiah-Lincoln 60-36 in the second half and pulled away for a 106-85 victory here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The victory improved JCJC to 7-0 on the season and 1-0 in the MACJC South Division.
JCJC placed six players in double figures as they remained undefeated.
Rickey Holden (Laurel) led the way with 23 points, while
Bruce Stevens (Bay Springs) had 20.
David Davis (Purvis) had 14,
Maurice Dunlap (Amanda Elzy) had 13,
Leito Holloway (Charlotte, North Carolina) had 12 and
Xavier Howard (Pearl) added 10.
Stevens led JCJC with 9 rebounds, while Holden and
Enrique Milton (Jackson Provine) had 7 assists each.
The Bobcats trailed 49-46 at halftime, but took the lead for good when Dunlap made a 3-pointer from the right corner at 17:58 to make it 53-52. Howard's 3-pointer from the left wing made it 63-54 at 15:42.
Lamarcus Lee's basket at 13:41 cut the JCJC lead to 68-61, but that was as close as the Wolves would get.
Holden's steal and layup capped a 17-4 run and gave JCJC an 85-65 lead with 8:52 left in the game. A Stevens' 3-pointer with 5:27 left gave the Bobcats their longest lead of the evening at 96-71.
Co-Lin held the edge for most of the first half.
The Wolves took a 13-6 lead with 16:21 showing when Darrian Wilson scored. A Stevens' basket tied it at 21-21 with 11:50 left.
Co-Lin would then respond and take its longest lead of the night at 30-23 with 9:25 left when Vincent Phillips scored. The Bobcats tied it at 35-35 with 5:31 left on a
David Davis field goal.
Lee led the Wolves, 4-4, with 20 points. Wilson added 16 and Tyrell McArthur added 10.
The Bobcats ended the game making 37-of-69 shots from the floor (11-of-24 from 3-point range) for 54 percent. JCJC was 21-of-25 from the free throw line for 84 percent.
Co-Lin was 32-of-75 from the field (9-of-31 from 3-point range) for 43 percent. The Wolves were 12-of-18 from the foul line for 67 percent.
JCJC outrebounded Co-Lin, 42-37. The Wolves committed 16 turnovers, compared to 15 for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats will host Louisiana Christian Prep at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Co-Lin, 4-4 overall and 0-1 in the division, hosts Delgado Community College (Louisiana) on Saturday.
