MARIANNA, Florida – Jones County Junior College went 2-0 here at the Panhandle Classic on the opening weekend of basketball season.
After beating IMG Academy 85-71 on Friday, JCJC defeated tournament host and perennial NJCAA power Chipola Junior College (Florida) 82-77 Saturday evening at the Milton H. Johnson Center.
For the second night in a row, David Davis (Purvis) led the Bobcats in scoring with 19 points. Tristin Walley had another 'double-double' with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Bruce Stevens (Bay Springs) had 11 points.
Yuat Alok had 12 points and Stretsky added 11 for the Indians.
JCJC was 23-of-58 from the field (8-of-22 from 3-point range) for 40 percent. Jones was only 28-of-55 from the free throw line.
Chipola was 23-of-53 from the floor (just 3-of-10 from 3-point range) for 43 percent. The Indians were 28-of-45 from the foul line.
JCJC outrebounded Chipola 47-44 and committed 17 turnovers, compared to 23 for the Indians.
JCJC travels to Holmes for an 8 p.m. game on Monday.
Chipola hosts Faith Academy on Tuesday.
