ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College played two senior colleges and a quality junior college in scrimmages to toughen their team for the upcoming regular season.
It worked like a charm.
JCJC scored four goals in the first 17 minutes and went on to crush Hinds Community College 11-0 here Friday night at Bobcat Soccer Field in their season opener.
Kelly Stubbington, a freshman from London, England, and
Traci Monroe, a sophomore from Stone County, each had a 'hat trick' for JCJC. Stubbington added a pair of assists. Laurel Christian School freshman
Marcie Napier had two goals and two assists, while Florence sophomore
Ali Sullivan had three assists.
Napier got the Lady Bobcats on the board first at the 2:33 mark and Stubbington followed with a goal off an assist by Napier at 5:30 to make it 2-0. A Napier goal at 12:13 made it 3-0 and Monroe's first goal at 16:15 gave JCJC a 4-0 lead.
Mattie Mills scored at 44:05 to put the Lady Bobcats up 5-0 at halftime.
Monroe then scored at 45:50 and gave Jones a 6-0 lead and Stubbington's second goal off an assist by Florence sophomore
Lindy Tabor at 48:40 made it 7-0. Monroe's third goal at 49:00 gave the Lady Bobcats an 8-0 lead.
Stubbington found the net again at 60:55 to make it 9-0 and South Jones sophomore
Dallas McKinnon scored at 68:30 to make it 10-0.
Kelsey Hannaford ended the scoring at 84:20.
West Jones freshman
Abbey Graham and South Pontotoc freshman
Mattie Mills also had assists for JCJC.
Oak Grove freshman
Holly Pike was in goal in the first half for JCJC, while South Jones freshman
Mackenzie Shows played the second half.
JCJC, 1-0, will host the University of West Alabama in a 5 p.m. scrimmage on Sunday. Their next regular season match is at 7 p.m. on Sept. 4 vs. Meridian.
Hinds, 1-2, hosts Pearl River at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
