BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – Second-ranked Jones County Junior College ended regular season play in fine fashion here Tuesday at Oak Villa Park.
Teri Richey recorded her 15
th victory of the year as JCJC posted a 9-1 decision in five innings over Baton Rouge Community College in game two of a doubleheader.
The Lady Bobcats, 37-2, will now host the North No. 4 team in a best-of-three playoff series in the opening round of the MACJC playoffs.
JCJC will face either Holmes or Northeast Mississippi in the first round. Game one will be at 4 p.m. on Friday with game two set for noon on Saturday at Community Bank Park. Game three, if necessary, will be 30 minutes after game two.
If JCJC wins that series, then they would host the MACJC Tournament May 1-3.
Baton Rouge, 4-29, hosts LSU-Eunice on Thursday.
JCJC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
Kalyn Watts was hit by a pitch to start the game, stole second and went to third on a passed ball.
Lauren Holifield then doubled her home.
The Lady Bears tied the game in the second.
Abbie Hall led off with a walk and Anna Hall was hit by a pitch. Taylor Delatte sacrificed the runners and Nicole Vossburg's single scored Abbie Hall.
The Lady Bobcats took a 3-1 lead in the third.
Tori Dew doubled with one out and scored on
Brittany Seale's two-out single.
Rebecca Monceaux followed with a single and
Hailee Kolwyck walked to load the bases.
Juliana Rouse was then hit by a pitch to force in a run.
JCJC made it 5-1 in the fourth.
Watts singled and
Savannah Lyon reached on an error. Holifield then singled to load the bases. Seale walked to force in a run and Monceaux's groundout scored Lyon.
The Lady Bobcats plated four runs in the fifth.
Shelby Nelson walked and Watts followed with a two-run home run. Lyon and Dew singled and
Lindy Tabor's single scored both runners.
Richey, 15-1, went the first four innings, allowed one run, five hits, walked two and struck out five.
Lauren Welch pitched an inning, allowed no hits and struck out one.
Watts homered and singled, while Dew and Holifield each doubled and singled for JCJC. Nelson, Lyon, Seale, Tabor and Monceaux added singles.
Kayla Orgeron doubled and singled for BRCC, while Vossburg, Tia Patterson and Abbie Hall added singles.
Mollie Stelly took the loss. She pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowed eight runs (seven earned), nine hits, walked four and struck out one. Orgeron pitched the final 2/3 of an inning and gave up one run on two hits.
