BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – Second-ranked Jones County Junior College pounded out 16 hits en route to a 13-6 win over Baton Rouge Community College in game one here at Oak Park Villa Tuesday afternoon.
JCJC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first.
Kalyn Watts led off with a bunt single and
Jay Harris walked. After a double play,
Brittany Seale singled Harris home.
BRCC answered back with two runs in the bottom of the first.
With two outs, Kayla Orgeron and Brooke Delaune singled. A Megan Smith single scored Orgeron and Abbie Hall singled in Delaune.
The Lady Bobcats then took command with a five-run second.
Rebecca Monceaux and
Hailee Kolwyck both reached on errors. With two outs, Watts singled and Harris then followed with a based-loaded triple.
Lauren Holifield then ripped her 22
nd home run of the season to make it 6-2.
The Lady Bobcats made it 10-2 in the third.
Kolwyck singled and
Tylesha Davis walked. After
Karla Santiago sacrificed, Watts tripled in both runs. Holifield then singled Watts home and Harris drew a walk. After Seale walked,
Kimberly Nilsson's fielder's choice scored Harris.
The Lady Bears got two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Taylor Delatte singled, Nicole Vossburg walked and Delaune followed with a two-run double to make it 10-4.
JCJC made it 13-4 in the sixth.
Skylar McLain and Kolwyck singled and Davis followed with an RBI single. After Watts reached on a fielder's choice,
Bridgette Wagner singled two runs home.
BRCC extended the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Vossburg singled, Orgeron reached on an error and Delaune walked. Abbie Hall then singled two runs home.
Watts tripled and singled twice for JCJC, while Holifield homered, singled and drove in three runs. Kolwyck, Davis and Seale had two singles each. Harris had a triple and three RBIs, while
Ashley Valentine doubled. Wagner, Nilsson and McLain added singles.
Rachel Hayes, 11-1, posted the win. She went three innings, allowed two runs, eight hits, walked one and struck out four.
Kayleigh Williams pitched four innings, allowed four runs (two earned), five hits, walked two and struck out three.
Delaune doubled and singled twice for Baton Rouge. Vossburg had three singles, while Abbie Hall singled twice. Orgeron, Smith, Anna Hall, Mollie Stelly and Delatte added singles.
Destiny Holmes started and took the loss. She went three innings, gave up 10 runs (five earned), 10 hits and walked four. Orgeron pitched four innings and allowed three runs, six hits and struck out two.
The Lady Bobcats are now 36-2, while BRCC falls to 4-28.
