WESSON –
Lauren Holifield slugged two home runs and
Teri Richey recorded her 12th win of the season as 3rd-ranked Jones County Junior College downed Copiah-Lincoln 12-3 in game two of a doubleheader here Wedneday afternooon at Lady Wolves Field.
Holifield now has 19 home runs on the season, which leads NJCAA Division II.
JCJC, 28-2 overall and 18-2 in the MACJC South Division, travels to Hinds for a 2 p.m. doubleheader on April 8 and goes to Pearl River for a noon doubleheader on April 11.
Co-Lin, 13-15 overall and 7-13 in league play, goes to Meridian on April 8.
JCJC took a 4-0 lead in the first.
Kalyn Watts and
Tori Dew singled and Holifield followed with a three-run home run to left.
Brittany Seale then followed with another home run.
The Lady Bobcats went up 7-0 in the fourth.
Dew doubled, Holifield walked and
Rebecca Monceaux followed with an RBI single.
Hailee Kolwyck then hit a two-run double.
Co-Lin got a run in the bottom of the fourth when Jessica Crum singled and Brittany Barbay followed with a single.
The Lady Bobcats made it 9-1 in the fifth.
Jay Harris and Watts singled and
Kimberly Nilsson sacrificed. Dew had a sacrifice fly to score Harris and Holifield singled to drive in Watts.
Co-Lin got two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Payton Sheffield and Crum singled and Kaitlin Taylor and Barbay followed with RBI singles.
The Lady Bobcats got three runs in the seventh.
Nilsson doubled and Dew doubled her home. Holifield then followed with a two-run blast to left.
Richey, 12-1, went the distance, allowed 10 hits, three runs, walked one and struck out eight.
Holifield homered twice, singled and drove in five runs, while Dew doubled twice, singled and had three RBIs. Nilsson and Kolwyck each doubled and singled, while Watts, Monceaux and Harris had two singles each. Seale homered with
Ashley Valentine adding a single.
Crum, Taylor and Barbay had two singles each for Co-Lin with Sheffield, Brasier, Greta Carley and Kristen Byrd adding singles.
Lucy Lewis started, went 2/3 of an inning and took the loss. She allowed four runs on five hits. Brasier pitched three innings and gave up three runs. Creel pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed five runs on eight hits. Welch pitched one inning and gave up one hit.
