ELLISVILLE –
Hailee Kolwyck and
Brittany Seale each homered and
Rachel Hayes and
Lauren Welch combined on a shutout as 2nd-ranked Jones County blanked Meridian Community College 10-0 in five innings in game one of a doubleheader here Wednesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
JCJC is now 33-2 overall and 23-2 in the MACJC South Division. Meridian falls to 11-26 and 8-17.
JCJC took command quickly with a six-run, first inning.
Kalyn Watts singled, stole second and scored on
Tori Dew's single.
Lauren Holifield doubled to score Dew. A
Brittany Seale single drove in Holifield to make it 3-0. After
Kayleigh Williams walked,
Rebecca Monceaux's sacrifice fly scored
Jay Harris, who was a courtesy runner for Seale.
Kolwyck then followed with a two-run home run, her first of the season.
JCJC added three runs in the third.
Holifield led off with a double and Seale followed with her ninth home run of the season to make it 8-0.
Williams reached on an error and Monceaux singled. Pinch-runner Skylar McLain then scored on an error.
The Lady Bobcats ended the scoring in the fourth when
Bridgette Wagner walked,
Tylesha Davis singled and Williams doubled Wagner home.
Hayes, 9-1, went 3 1/3 innings and picked up the win. She gave up two hits, walked none and struck out five. Welch went 1 2/3 innings, allowed no hits and walked one.
Seale homered, singled and drove in three runs, while Kolwyck homered. Holifield doubled twice with Williams adding a double. Watts, Dew, Davis and Monceaux added singles.
Taylor Blevins and Victoria Lewis singled for Meridian.
Zoie LaVergne pitched 1/3 of an inning and took the loss. She allowed four runs and four hits. Shelby Perry pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowed six runs, six hits, walked two and struck out two.
