DECATUR – Chloe Thaggard limited No. 1 Jones County Junior College to six hits to lead East Central to a 4-1 victory in game two of a doubleheader here Friday afternoon.
JCJC, 24-2 overall and 14-2 in the MACJC South Division, will host Mississippi Gulf Coast in a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Monday. The games will air on www.jcjc.tv.
East Central, 25-7 and 11-5, travels to Meridian on Monday.
ECCC scored twice in the first when Mallory Turner reached on an error and Maegan Ellis singled. Mahalia Gibson's double scored Mallory Turner and Andi Hannaford's fielder's choice scored Ellis.
The Lady Warriors made it 3-0 in the third when Ellis doubled, Gibson walked and Hannaford sacrificed. Caitlyn Aldous' fielder's choice scored Ellis.
JCJC loaded the bases in the fourth inning with two outs, but a fly out ended the threat.
ECCC went ahead 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Turner walked, Ellis singled and Gibson's single scored Turner.
JCJC scored in the sixth. Kayleigh Williams and Karla Santiago singled. Kalyn Watts reached on a fielder's choice, which scored the run.
Williams had three singles to lead JCJC. Rebecca Monceaux, Brittany Seale and Santiago added singles.
Teri Richey, 10-1, took the loss. She pitched the first 5 2/3 innings, allowed four runs (three earned), seven hits, walked three and struck out five. Lauren Welch pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up a hit.
Ellis and Gibson both doubled and singled twice for the Lady Warriors. Turner and Karoline Holsonback added singles.
Thaggard walked five and fanned seven in the circle for ECCC.
