MERIDIAN – The No. 1 rated Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats blanked Meridian Community College 10-0 in five innings in game two of a doubleheader here Saturday afternoon at C.D.Smith Field.
The Lady Bobcats are now 22-0 overall and 10-0 in the MACJC South Division. JCJC travels to Southwest Mississippi for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday.
Meridian, 6-16 overall and 3-7 in the division, travels to East Mississippi on Monday.
Rachel Hayes, 3-0, went the distance and got the win.
Hayes allowed no runs, three hits, walked two and struck out three.
JCJC got off to another quick start, scoring three runs in the first inning.
Kalyn Watts reached on an error to start the game and
Rebecca Monceaux walked.
Lauren Holifield doubled to score Watts and
Brittany Seale was hit by a pitch.
Kimberly Nilsson followed with a single and
Tylesha Davis followed with a two-run single.
The Lady Bobcats went up 4-0 in the second when Watts walked and Monceaux was hit by a pitch. Watts would end up scoring on a passed ball.
JCJC made it 6-0 in the third.
Seale and Nilsson each singled and Davis followed with an RBI double. Davis took third on the throw and scored on a bunt by
Jay Harris.
The Lady Bobcats added a run in the fourth when
Tori Dew singled, advanced two bases on passed balls and scored when Seale reached on an error.
JCJC ended the scoring in the fifth.
Hayes walked, Harris singled and Watts singled to load the bases. Dew drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Holifield followed with a two-run single.
Holifield and Davis each doubled and singled for JCJC, while Nilsson singled twice. Watts, Dew, Seale and Harris added singles.
Rebecca Holder, Cheyenne Barefoot and Montana Holifield singled for MCC.
Angel Thornton started, went 2 2/3 innings and took the loss. She allowed seven runs (three earned), seven hits, walked three and struck out two. Shelby Perry pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed three runs (two earned), three hits and walked one.
