PERKINSTON – The No. 1 rated Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats completed a sweep of Mississippi Gulf Coast here Friday afternon at Ross-Smith Field.
JCJC jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third inning and went on to a 6-3 win over MGCCC in game two of a twinibill.
The Lady Bobcats are now 20-0 overall, 8-0 in the MACJC South Division and will visit Meridian for a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
MGCCC falls to 24-6 overall and 7-3 in league play and will host Southwest Mississippi on Saturday.
JCJC took a 1-0 lead in the second.
Brittany Seale walked and
Lindy Tabor entered as a courtesy runner.
Lindy Tabor advanced on a passed ball and scored on a single by
Tylesha Davis.
The Lady Bobcats took a 5-0 lead in the third.
Kalyn Watts reached on an error,
Tori Dew singled and
Lauren Holifield singled to score a run.
Kimberly Nilsson then followed with a two-run double and
Karla Santiago's single scored a run.
MGCCC scored a run in the third and JCJC responded with a run in the fourth.
Jay Harris and Watts each singled and were sacrificed by
Rebecca Monceaux. A Dew groundout scored Harris.
The Lady Bulldogs would score twice in the fifth.
Teri Richey, 9-0, went the distance and posted the win. She gave up three earned runs, nine hits, walked one and struck out three.
Nilsson doubled twice and Davis singled twice for JCJC. Watts, Dew, Holifield, Santiago and Harris added singles.
Lee went the distance for MGCCC and took the loss. She gave up six runs (three earned), nine hits, walked four and struck out four.
Kamryn Theriot doubled and singled for MGCCC and Britney Butler singled twice. Lee, Elmore, Catelyn Williams, Tabitha Johnson and Alyssa Hardy added singles.
