PERKINSTON – The No. 1 rated Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats scored four runs in the top of the first inning and went on to a 9-4 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast here Friday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader.
Kalyn Watts and Rebecca Monceaux were hit by pitches to start the game and Tori Dew followed with an RBI single.
With one out, Brittany Seale hit a 3-run home run to make it 4-0.
In the second, Watts doubled and Monceaux followed with an RBI single.
Dew then crushed a two-run homer to make it 7-0.
The Lady Bobcats took an 8-0 lead in the fifth when Dew doubled to right and Nilsson delivered a two-out, RBI double to left.
MGCCC then scored one in the fifth and three in the sixth to make it 8-4.
JCJC added a run in the seventh when Shelby Nelson doubled and Rachel Hayes added a triple.
Kayleigh Williams, 8-0, was the starter and winner. She went 5 2/3 innings, allowed four earned runs, seven hits, walked five and struck out eight. Hayes went 1 1/3 innings, allowed no hits and struck out two.
Dew homered, doubled, singled and drove in three runs for JCJC, while Monceaux singled twice. Seale homered, Hayes tripled and Watts, Nelson and Nilsson each doubled. Savannah Lyon added a single.
Deborah Elmore doubled and singled for MGCCC, while Kaitlin Lee and Alyssa Hardy  had two singles each. Brittany Cooley added one single.
Paige Breale went 1/3 of an inning and took the loss. She gave up four earned runs, two hits and walked one. Kristen Gardner went the final 6 2/3 innings, allowed five earned runs, nine hits and struck out six.
