MERIDIAN – The Jones County Junior College women's tennis team had a good showing in their season opening match.
The Lady Bobcats blanked Faulkner State Community College (Alabama) 9-0 here at the Northeast Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
In No. 1 doubles,
Jenna Hegwood and
Shelby Gilliland edged Parris Cruse and Christian Early, 8-6.
Claire Rounsaville and
Breanna Waller whipped Iesha Peoples and DeKendra Davis, 8-1.
Krissy Stutts and
Tymeka Hunter defeated Jameka James and Jasmin James, 8-3.
In No. 1 singles, Hegwood outlasted Cruse, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8. Gilliland beat Early 6-2, 6-4 in No. 2 singles and Rounsaville downed Peoples 6-3, 6-2 in No. 3 singles. Stutts whipped Davis 6-2, 6-0 in No. 4 singles, Hunter defeated Jameka James 6-0, 6-2 in No. 5 singles and
Caitlin Taylor beat Jasmin James in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
The Lady Bobcats return to play at 2 p.m. on Feb. 18 at home against Northeast Mississippi Community College
