No. 1 Lady Bobcats notch another shutout to sweep Marion Military

ELLISVILLE – Lauren Holifield and Kayleigh Williams combined on a three-hit shutout to lead the top-rated Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats to a 2-0 victory over Mariont Military Institute (Alabama) in game two of a doubleheader here Monday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
JCJC won game one, 13-0 in five innings.
It was a different type of game than the opener, but the Lady Bobcats still prevailed.
JCJC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Kayln Watts walked, was sacrificed to second by East Central freshman Shelby Nelson and scored on Tori Dew's double.
St. Martin freshman Jay Harris blasted a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the second for the game's final run.
Once again, the Lady Bobcats were stellar in the circle.
Holifield, 1-0, started, went three innings, and was credited with the win. She gave up two hits, walked one and struck out two. In the top of the first, MMI loaded the bases with two outs, but Holifield struck out Taylor Saucier to end the threat.
Williams, a freshman from Georgetown, Texas, pitched well in the final four innings. She allowed just one hit and struck out five.
Savoie went the distance and took the loss. She allowed two runs, eight hits, walked one and struck out two.
Alisea Balderaz singled twice for MMI, while Angel Harrison singled.
JCJC, 2-0, will now head south and play four games this weekend. They are at Pensacola State College (Florida) at noon on Saturday and Jefferson Davis Community College in Brewton, Alabama, at noon on Sunday.
MMI, 3-3, travels to East Central on Thursday.
