Mason Irby drove in three runs to help the 11
th-ranked Jones County Junior College Bobcats to a 4-1 victory over Jefferson Davis Community College (Alabama) here Saturday at Community Bank Park in game two of a doubleheader.
Columbus sophomore
Christian Dale went the first five innings and got the win.
He gave up one unearned run, allowed four hits, walked one and struck out three.
Newton County redshirt freshman
Will Brand pitched a perfect sixth inning and Sumrall sophomore
Will Simon pitched a perfect seventh inning, recorded two strikeouts and got a save.
JCJC took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Chris Morgan led off with a single, stole second and
Clint Sasser was then hit by a pitch.
Dylan Manichia then singled home Morgan. Irby's groundout scored Sasser.
The Bobcats made it 4-0 in the third when Manichia doubled,
Chase Hensley was hit by a pitch and Irby doubled into the rightfield corner to score both runners.
JDCC's only run came in the fifth when Brandon Goins singled and Alex Talley singled. Both runners advanced on an error and John-Mark Cosby's groundout scored Goins.
Manichia doubled and singled, while Irby doubled and drove in three runs for the Bobcats. Northwest Rankin freshman
John Alan Wall doubled, while Morgan, Hensley and
Carter Polles added singles.
Riley Stokes singled twice for JDCC, while Goins and Talley added singles.
Taylor Baynes started and took the loss. He went four innings, gave up four runs, six hits, walked one, hit two and struck out three. Garrett Davis pitched the final two innings, allowed one hit and struck out one.
The Bobcats won game one on Saturday, 8-1.
JCJC, 2-0, will travel to East Mississippi Community College for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday.
JDCC, 1-3, hosts Pensacola State College (Florida) on Tuesday.
