MERIDIAN – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats remained unbeaten at 5-0 with a 6-3 victory over Meridian Community College here Thursday afternoon at the Northeast Tennis Center.
JCJC travels to Itawamba for a 2 p.m. match on Monday and will host Holmes at 2 p.m. on March 5 in their final match before spring break.
Meridian hosts Northeast Mississippi on Friday.
The Lady Bobcats swept the doubles' points.
Jenna Hegwood and
Shelby Gilliland whipped Paige Gibson and Jennifer Smith in No. 1 doubles, 8-1. In No. 2 doubles,
Claire Rounsaville and
Breanna Waller edged Caroline Terry and Alden Hartley, 9-7.
Krissy Stutts and
Tymeka Hunter nipped Taylor White and Jamie Daugherty in No. 3 doubles, 9-7.
Gilliland beat Terry in No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-2. Stutts whipped White 6-0, 6-1 in No. 4 singles and Hunter beat Hartley in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
In No. 1 singles, MCC's Gibson edged Hegwood, 6-4, 7-6 (5). Smith edged Rounsaville in No. 3 singles, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) and Daugherty outlasted
Caitlin Taylor in No. 6 singles, 4-6, 6-2, 10-7.
In an extra doubles match, JCJC's
Haley Middleton and
Montanna Guerra beat MCC's Brittany Allen and Summer Stockstill, 8-2.
