ELLISVILLE –
Kayleigh Williams tossed a complete-game with 10 strikeouts and also belted a three-run home run to lead No. 1-ranked Jones County Junior College to an 11-3, six-inning victory over No. 3 Illinois Central College here Friday night in the Gwen Magee Invitational.
The Lady Bobcats are now 8-0 on the season.
JCJC fell behind 3-0 before storming back for the win.
ICC took a 1-0 lead in the first when Erica Phillips singled and Joy Treasure doubled her home.
They made it 3-0 in the third when Phillips singled and Paige Korten drilled a two-run home run.
But JCJC began the comeback in the fourth.
Lauren Holifield and Kimbelry Nilsson drew walks and Williams then smashed a three-run home run to left to tie the game at 3-3.
The Lady Bobcats went ahead in the fifth.
Tori Dew walked and scored on Holifield's double.
Brittany Seale then doubled to score Holifield and
Lindy Tabor – a courtesy runner for Seale – later scored on a passed ball to make it 6-3.
JCJC ended the game with five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Jay Harris led off with a triple and
Kalyn Watts and
Rebecca Monceaux walked to load the bases. Dew walked to force home Harris and Holifield then came through with a two-run double to make it 9-3.
Seale's sacrifice fly scored Dew and later, after Williams had walked,
Tylesha Davis singled to score Holifield.
Williams, 3-0, allowed three runs, seven hits and walked one.
Offensively, Williams homered, singled and drove in three runs. Holifield doubled twice and had three RBIs, while Harris tripled. Seale and Davis added singles.
Phillips singled twice, while Korten homered for ICC. Treasure had a double with Nicole Montgomery, Casey Brunton and Ciera Montgomery adding singles.
Phillips went the first three innings, allowed no runs, one hit, walked one and struck out three. Jena Reddig pitched two innings, allowed six runs (five earned), three hits, walked five, struck out one and took the loss. Alison Haesele pitched 2/3 of an inning, gave up five runs, three hits and walked four.
The event concludes on Saturday at Community Bank Park with JCJC meeting Lincoln Land at 10 a.m. and Illinois Central at noon. Lincoln Land is scheduled to play Hinds Community College at 2 p.m. and Illinois Central is schedule to meet Hinds at 4 p.m. Bossier Parish Community College (Louisiana) was set to play in the tournament, but had to cancel and Hinds replaced them.
