BREWTON, Alabama –
Kayleigh Williams tossed a four-hit shutout to lead the No. 1-rated Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats to a 4-0 victory over Jefferson Davis Community College here Sunday afternoon at JDCC Softball Field.
Williams struck out two and walked two as she improved to 2-0.
Lauren Holifield belted her sixth home run of the year and had a pair of RBIs, as did
Tori Dew.
The game was scoreless until the fourth when Holifield homered to left to give JCJC a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Bobcats added three runs in the sixth.
Kalyn Watts led off with a single and
Rebecca Monceaux followed with a bunt single. Dew then tripled both runners home with a drive to center. Holifield's double scored Dew for the game's final run.
Holifield homered and doubled, while Watts singled twice. Dew tripled with Monceaux, Williams and
Tylesha Davis adding singles.
Kaitlin Hadaway went the distance for JDCC and got the loss. She allowed four runs, eight hits, walked one and struck out six. Moriah Trijulio doubled for the Warhawks, while Brake, Savannah Allen and Chelsey Ramer added singles.
JCJC, 6-0, will now host the Gwen Magee Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Community Bank Park.
Friday's games will feature Copiah-Lincoln vs. No. 5 Lincoln Land Community College (Illinois) at 1 p.m., followed by Co-Lin vs. No. 3 Illinois Central College at 3 p.m. The Lady Bobcats face Lincoln Land at 5 p.m. and Illinois Central at 7 p.m.
Saturday's schedule finds JCJC vs. Lincoln Land at 10 a.m. and vs. Illinois Central at noon. Lincoln Land meets Bossier Parish Community College (Louisiana) at 2 p.m., followed by BPCC vs. Illinois Central at 4 p.m.
Jeff Davis, 2-6, will play in the Gulf Shores Classic on Friday and Saturday.
