PENSACOLA, Florida –
Tori Dew drove in five runs to pace top-ranked Jones County Junior College to an 11-2, six-inning victory over Pensacola State College here Saturday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader at the Pensacola State Softball Field.
JCJC took a 3-0 lead in the third inning.
Karla Santiago drew a walk, followed by singles by
Savannah Lyon and
Kalyn Watts.
Rebecca Monceaux fielder's choice scored Santiago and a
Lauren Holifield single scored Watts and Monceaux.
The Pirates made it 3-2 in the bottom of the third and it stayed that way until the fifth.
Lyon drew a walk, Watts singled and Monceaux sacrificed. Dew then blasted a three-run home run to give Jones a 6-2 lead. Holifield then doubled and would score on a double by
Tylesha Davis.
The Lady Bobcats scored four more runs in the top of the sixth.
Santiago singled and Watts reached on an error. Monceaux then reached on a fielder's choice and Dew followed with a two-run double. Holifield then blasted a two-run homer to close the scoring.
Teri Richey, 2-0, went the distance and got the win. She scattered eight hits, walked one and struck out three.
Dew homered, doubled and had five RBIs, while Holifield homered, doubled, singled and drove in three runs. Watts had two singles and Davis doubled.
Brittany Seale, Santiago and Lyon added singles.
Jocelyn Phillips doubled and singled for Pensacola St., while Bevia Robinson singled twice. Jenna Bobbitt added a double with Rebecca Calloway, Quierra Bradford and Erin Dansby adding singles.
Kinsley Mason started, went 4 2/3 innings and took the loss. She gave up seven earned runs, seven hits, walked three and struck out three. Allison Pettigrew pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, allowed four runs (none earned), four hits, walked none and struck out one.
