RAYMOND – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats have an opportunity to earn a state championship.
JCJC defeated Hinds Community College 1-0 here Friday in the MACJC/Region 23 Tournament at Tom Shepherd Field.
Kelly Stubbington scored at 9:32 off an assist by
Dallas McKinnon and the JCJC defense made it stand up the rest of the way.
Holly Pike was in goal for the Lady Bobcats for the entire game and recorded two saves.
JCJC had 13 shots, including nine shots on goal. Hinds had three shots, including two shots on goal.
Mackenzie Page had eight saves for the Lady Eagles.
JCJC, 13-3, will face Pearl River Community College at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the championship game. PRCC edged East Central 2-1 in double overtime on Friday afternoon.
JCJC and Pearl River split in the regular season with each team claiming a 2-1, double overtime decision.
Hinds ends the season at 9-8.
The JCJC/Pearl River winner will host top-ranked Eastern Florida State College on Nov. 6 or Nov. 7 in the NJCAA District H championship game. The winner of that game will head to the NJCAA Division I Championship Tournament Nov. 16-21 in Melbourne, Florida.
