FULTON – Point guard
Bryce Jones had 23 points and 9 assists to pace Jones County Junior College to an 80-76 victory over Itawamba Community College here Thursday night at Davis Event Center.
JCJC started off strong and took a 22-10 lead with 12:18 left in the first half. ICC came back and tied the game at 37-37 late in the half, but the Bobcats would take a 43-39 lead at intermission.
The Indians came back and tied it at 55-55 with just over 12 minutes to play. But JCJC would then go on a 13-5 run and take a 68-60 lead with 7:43 to play.
ICC pulled within two points several times in the final minutes, but the Bobcats would not relinquish the lead.
Jones had 9 assists to go with his team-high point total, while Leroy "Truck" Fludd had 13 points for the Bobcats. Christopher "CJ" White added 12, while
Bryce Perry and Rodrigus Palmer had 10 each.
Tyrone Wooten had 23 points for the Indians, while Howard Thomas added 15 and Austin Timms and Lakee Westbrook had 10 each.
The Bobcats were 27-of-51 from the floor, including 10-of-21 from the 3-point line, for 53 percent. JCJC was 16-of-21 from the free throw line.
ICC was 23-of-47 from the floor, including 4-of-14 from 3-point range, for 57.6 percent. The Indians were 26-of-33 from the free throw line.
The Bobcats are now 2-0, while Itawamba falls to 1-2.
JCJC will travel to New Orleans to take on Delgado Community College at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Bobcats return home at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 20 against the William Carey University Junior Varsity.
Itawamba visits Snead State Community College (Alabama) on Monday.
